Bloom & Stone
Nicework was enlisted to create a CI and website design for boutique theatre & film production house Bloom & Stone.
Client: Bloom & Stone
Drawing reference from the rich personalities of Bloom & Stone owners Terri and Vanessa, we created a bespoke design that clearly reflects the diverse characteristics of this creative company.
Discovery:
To get our creative juices flowing, Terri and Vanessa, to each select a colour that they felt represented their individual personality. While Vanessa was drawn to rich, bold and vibrant colours, Terri preferred more minimalist, clean and muted tones. Vanessa chose a pink and Terri chose a muted grey. Our challenge was to find a balance between the two.
Brief:
- Create a complete branding treatment, including a logotype, collateral and website design
- The design had to reflect the different personalities of the people behind Bloom & Stone
- To combine natural, organic imagery with more static and solid design
- A device had to be created to function as both a logotype and an icon

Tackling the brief:
Bloom & Stone is a name of contrasts - while “bloom” suggests something that is flourishing, bold and organic, “stone” refers to something more solid, constant and permanent. One of Terri and Vanessa’s priorities was to come out with a corporate identity that reflects both of their individual sensibilities through a mix of sinuous hand lettering, geometric prints and laser cut techniques.
Logotype:
The ampersand symbol, which represents a connection between two disparate elements, was the perfect icon for their purpose. The simplicity of the symbol gave the logotype versatility, and was translated in a variety of styles. Nicework created 9 variations of the ampersand, which was rendered in Bloom & Stone’s corporate colours: pink and grey.
Business cards, letterhead and email signature:

The business cards came in two variations: a bold pink geometric pattern and a dark floral pattern. Vanessa and Terri each chose ampersands that they felt most representative of their individual aesthetic sense. These ampersands were then placed in a white circular holding shape on the front of the card – which was laser cut over the patterned background.
The ampersands were, additionally, used to create 9 different letterheads, to be used for a variety of clients or contexts. Nicework also created an ampersand icon to be used for their email signatures.
Website:
Given that Bloom & Stone is a design-centric company, Nicework developed a website that is built around showcasing various visual galleries. To achieve brand continuity, the design incorporated Bloom & Stone’s corporate colours and unique ampersands.
