Colorstory

Nicework was enlisted with the task to name, brand and create a corporate identity for a film production company based in Dubai. The name Colorstory was chosen to position the company as visionaries in their field with the ability to bring colour and life to the projects they worked on. The idea of colour was expanded through the design elements in the CI visually creating a paint-by-numbers brand that is applicable to a variety of clients.

Discovery:

Nicework's extensive portfolio of identity work led to Colorstory approaching Nicework to conceptualise their company name and create their logo and corporate identity. The brand had to retain a distinct identity within a congested market.

Brief:

  • Name the company
  • Design their logo and corporate identity
  • Create their company stationary i.e. letterheads and business cards

Challenges:

  • Delivering the brief with little input from client
  • Creating an identity that distinguishes Colorstory from its competitors in a congested market

Tackling the brief:

The brand needed to appeal to international creatives in the film industry. In order to appeal to a creative crowd, the company's name and design needed to be quirky, original and unique. The name Colorstory positions the company as able to make magic through cinematic narratives. The title evokes the company's ability to turn their client's vision into reality.

To facilitate this concept through design we decided to make their identity an empty vessel that can be filled with the creative vision of others. This was achieved by creating a complementary set of brand elements. A small container of colour pencils were included with laser cut, stencil-like business cards, allowing the recipient to colour the logo onto anything, in any colour of their choosing. This simple execution made a potentially complex idea easily graspable, a sort of "paint-by-numbers" corporate identity applicable to all clients.

Result:

  • A catchy company name that reflects their enthusiastic and agile approach
  • A unique, distinctive brand that is versatile in a variety of markets
  • A positive response from the client
  • Positive feedback from the mother company
