Bruce Lee is the master of kickass. Nokia is the master of the cellular phone market. Combine the two and you get some pretty kickass advertising.
This is not really a travel blog, but some destinations warrant a punt. Old Mac Daddy’s Luxury Trailer Park is located just outside of Cape Town. The standout feature of the location are the ten Airstream trailers from the 1950′s that serve as designer accommodation for its guests.
Each trailer is designed by a different artist/designer with one or two being commissioned by big brands like Grolsch. Themes such as: The Dream, For Better or for Boerewors, and, Give Bees a Chance make for a quirky and memorable experience. The Dirkie Sanchez Suite even features a bed that doubles up as a wrestling ring. Seems well worth a visit.
Suzanne Lee is a fashion designer and director of the Biocouture Research Project. She has developed a way to create a leathery fabric from the cellulose strands created by Kombucha cultures. Using food dyes and other harmless ingredients, she has created a line of clothing using this remarkable new material. Here is the video of her recent TED talk:
The EcoARK in Taiwan is a huge step forward in re-use thinking. 1.5 million plastic bottles were recycled into new, “Polli-Bricks” and used in the construction of a 130m by 26m building that can be disassembled and re-assembled at will. The design of the Polli-Bricks allows them to fit together tightly and still exhibit amazing flexibility. This allows structures to withstand higher magnitude shocks and earthquakes than traditional, rigid building materials. Awesome idea, awesome material, awesome design.

Walton Creel has an unique approach to his art. He uses a .22 caliber rifle to create portraits of animals on sheet metal. His choice of subject makes for an interesting artistic statement, as it uses a hunting weapon to immortalise things that would usually be hunted. A bringing to life rather than taking a life…

Denny Mo is a photographer and creative director based in Johannesburg. He is also a really friendly guy. His photographic style is influenced by his oriental heritage, a love for natural subjects and a taste for international travel. He has just launched a massive portfolio of work called Our Missing Planet. Awesome stuff, check it out…
Lightpainting is not a new genre of photography. But there is always somebody that will redefine an artform and take it to the next level. In the case of Trevor Williams things get taken to another dimension altogether.
He also shoots some pretty cool lomo’s and is part of Fiz-Iks, a prolific photography collective.
Alexa Meade is an artist that specialises in painting, but does not like canvas. She paints directly onto the subjects of her pieces in a sort of “reverse trompe l’oeil”, which she then photographs or installs as living sculptures. It infuses the work with an unexpected realism that transcends her impressionist inspired technique.
For more of her work check out her Flickr stream.
What do you call a shoe that is a sneaker, a slipper and two types of boot at the same time? Nat-2 is an European shoe brand that has turned the world of footwear on its head with a 4-in-1 stackable shoe. Winner of a Designboom Red Dot Award in 2010, they have also created ranges for the Wu Tang Clan’s Wu Wear label and the new Transformers movie.
Apostol Tnokovski is an industrial designer from Macedonia. He is also a Lady Gaga fan. Because of his immense design talent, we won’t hold that against him. He made her a piano, which is awesome, regardless of how many times they play Alejandro on the radio…
