Nicework has been working together with The SA Consumer Initiative over the past year to refresh their brand through great design, funny copy and top-notch web design and development. 2011 marks the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize awarded to Madame Marie Curie and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the International Association of Chemical Societies. Graphic designer Simon C Page created a series of posters inspired by famous chemists or scientific discoveries to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry.

Going Gone Gorilla

Ged Palmer and Tom Lane created this life-sized gorilla sculpture for Bristol Zoo’s 175th birthday. Drawing inspiration from the typical butchers diagram, facts about the bush-meat trade in Africa were hand-lettered onto the gorilla. The sculpture was then covered in a heat-sensitive black paint which revealed the information below when touched or hot water was applied. The sculpture received a silver & bronze at the Fresh Digital Awards.

RIP Steve Jobs

RIP Alex Steinweiss

Graphic designer Alex Steinweiss died a few days ago. He was the first art director for Columbia Records and is credited for revolutionizing the way records were music packaged and marketed. He invented the album cover in 1938 at the age of 23. He designed roughly 2500 covers over the course of his life. Here is some of his work:
