IKEA UPPLEVA
IKEA is so clever. Ross is also clever for finding this video.
“IKEA introduces UPPLEVA, a completely new range that integrates smart TV and sound system with furniture. UPPLEVA brings beauty and functionality to the living room, solving the problem of cable clutter and miss-match between TV and furniture.”
Nature Valley Trail View
It’s like Google Street View but for hiking trails and natural wonders. It would be awesome to have something like this to document South Africa’s amazing hikes and parks.

Empty Memory
Designers Hanhsi Chen and Yookyung Shin (aka Logical Art) created a cool collection of jewellery pieces that double as USB sticks. Classy and clever.
Roku USB
The Roku streaming player looks set to be replaced with a more compact USB streamer that plugs directly into your TV.
“The Roku Streaming stick, despite its size, holds and does just about everything a standard box does—sans extra storage, USB jacks, and other things that require a form larger than a thumb. But once plugged in to your TV’s HDMI port, it’ll present you with the same old Roku menu and streaming selections you’re used to from the black puck—all controlled with your standard TV remote.”
The only catch is that you need a HDMI port called MHL, which is not very common in the current TV market.

Roll Up Travel Charger
A portable charger from Restoration Hardware that minimizes cable clutter by placing multiple outlets on a single bar that rolls up into a slip-proof, polyurethane mat. You can refuel up to 4 devices simultaneously while occupying just a single wall outlet. Such a clever little thing.
NICE Magazine: Issue 5
The latest NICE Magazine is out and available for download! For this issue we have chosen “Forks & Knives” as our theme and it’s all about food. Expect an aesthetic mix of design, illustration, advertising, art and publishing that celebrates food, cooking and eating in all its forms.
Follow these instructions to get your hands on one, it’s cool and free!
- Download either a PDF version or a WWF non-printable version. It’s as easy as pie. The WWF version is better because you’ll be saving the environment. Ten points for you.
- If you are not interested in taking the time to download. Read the magazine online here.
So what do we have on the menu for this issue? We profile American photographer Michael Muller who gives us an intimate portrayal of his creative process and his daily life. Our favourite food bloggers share recipes that are a delight to look at and even better to eat. We showcase some really beautiful ceramics from Reiko Kaneko, as well as textile, ceramic and paper works from multi-talented illustration duo Zosienka & Rosie. We explore alternative dining experiences with our profiles on Sometimes Dining and Simply Saffron. Glasfurd & Walker show us how it’s done with their beautiful restaurant design and Kelli Anderson makes a difference with her design for a solar-powered popsicle truck. We also have some sterling design for you to feast our eyes on from Aïssa Logerot, Yii, Ben Johnston and Studiomama. Our “Best in Show: Food Edition” rounds up the tastiest grub (in our humble opinion) available in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. Our features of illustrators Lina Forsgren, Amy Borrell and Ed Nacional also add some creative flair to our culinary line-up. So what are you waiting for? Download it now!
